Sushi Bars in Tai Kwun and Lan Kwai Fong

Colour key: prices · what to do · cautions · places

We found three sushi options in Tai Kwun and Lan Kwai Fong taking bookings in October 2026, with set menus listed from HKD 358 at lunch before service. One well-known counter nearby is currently paused, so confirm the restaurant is open before you plan around it.

Sushi Masa Black in Tai Kwun suits a lower-priced first omakase, with dinner sets of HKD 498 and HKD 698. Shiro in Tai Kwun’s Armoury suits groups who want sushi, drinks and longer opening hours. Tokio Joe on Lan Kwai Fong suits a livelier dinner, with omakase reported at HKD 1,400.

1. Two sushi counters inside Tai Kwun

Sushi Masa Black & Masa Lounge, Tai Kwun

Where: Shop LG103, LG1/F, Police Headquarters Block (Block 01), Tai Kwun, 10 Hollywood Road, Central. Open Google Maps. OpenRice lists 12:00–15:00 and 18:00–22:00 daily; confirm sittings by phone on 9452 8253.

Its OpenRice booking listing shows a HKD 358 13-item lunch, a HKD 498 15-item omakase and a HKD 698 premium omakase, each marked service charge excluded, with a 10% charge listed. Tai Kwun’s directory also describes a lounge bar.

Choose it for: a first counter omakase in Central without a four-figure bill. Limitation: the rice is seasoned with black vinegar, and one OpenRice reviewer in October 2026 found it too sour. Ask about seat count and set inclusions; OpenRice lists only 12 seats.

Some older guides still place Sushi Zo at Shop LG103. OpenRice now lists Sushi Masa Black at that unit, and we could not confirm Sushi Zo is still trading.

Shiro, Tai Kwun Armoury

Where: G/F, Armoury (Building 02), Tai Kwun, 10 Hollywood Road, Central; Shiro’s website also mentions a 1/F terrace. Open Google Maps. OpenRice lists Mon–Thu 12:00–22:00, Fri 12:00–23:00, Sat–Sun 11:00–23:00.

The official lunch page lists weekday lunch from HKD 268 per person. OpenRice diners reported a HKD 488 weekend brunch in June 2026. We could not confirm whether a service charge applies.

Choose it for: mixed groups, terrace drinks or a later start than most counters allow. Limitation: this is a broader Japanese menu, not a chef-led omakase counter. Sources list different phone numbers, so book through the official website or OpenRice.

2. Lan Kwai Fong and Wyndham Street

Tokio Joe, Lan Kwai Fong

Where: G/F, 16 Lan Kwai Fong, Central. Open Google Maps. OpenRice describes it as a 5-minute walk from Central MTR Exit D2.

Lan Kwai Fong’s own May 2025 guide reported omakase at HKD 1,400 per person, and OpenRice diners reported a HKD 1,080 tasting menu in 2025. Neither figure was confirmed on a current menu. The official page advertises 10% off à la carte dinner food, Sunday to Thursday.

Choose it for: a sushi dinner at the centre of Lan Kwai Fong; the official page says it has operated since 1995. Limitation: an OpenRice reviewer in August 2025 criticised service and wet rice at brunch. Ask whether the discount applies to your date and menu.

Sushi Haru, Wyndham Street (paused)

Black Sheep Restaurants’ eight-seat Edomae counter sits on the Mezzanine, LKF Tower, 33 Wyndham Street. Its official website says it will “return soon”, and we found no reopening date. Compare other Hong Kong omakase.

3. Budget a dinner for two

Save this budget check: with the listed 10% service, HKD 498 × 2 becomes HKD 1,095.60; HKD 698 × 2 becomes HKD 1,535.60. If Tokio Joe’s reported price still applies, HKD 1,400 × 2 becomes HKD 3,080. These totals exclude drinks.

Sushi Masa Black’s booking page reports HKD 200 corkage. Ask whether supplements, drinks or deposits affect the total before confirming. For cheaper midday options, see Central lunch omakase under HKD 800.

4. Plan the evening

Pick one area for dinner and drinks. Taxi card, as shown on OpenRice: Sushi Masa Black, 中環荷李活道10號大館01座警察總部大樓LG1樓LG103號舖; Shiro, 中環荷李活道10號大館02座槍房地舖.

Copy this enquiry: “Hello, we would like [number] counter seats on [date] at [time]. Which set menus are available, is there a 10% service charge, and what is your corkage fee? Please confirm any deposit and cancellation terms.”
