Sushi Catering Lead Time and Cancellation Policies
Most sushi catering in Hong Kong needs a few days to a week's notice for large platters. Cancellation rules vary a lot, and prepaid deals are often non-refundable. The safest approach is to ask the right questions before you pay.
Rules of thumb. Individual sets: order same day via apps. Large platters: allow up to seven days — sen-ryo's 42-piece platter has needed a week. Sashimi boats: pre-order. Prepaid deals: often non-refundable; some allow changes 24 hours ahead.
Lead times
Same day: single sets and small platters via foodpanda, Deliveroo or chain apps — for example Sushi Express's 30-piece Party Box or Sushiro's pick-your-own boxes. Several days: catering-only items. sen-ryo lists some items as "Catering Exclusive", such as a teriyaki Australian wagyu bento at HKD 168. Up to a week: large platters such as sen-ryo's 42-piece Special Sushi Platter. Pre-order: sashimi boats from supermarket eShops.
Cancellation policies
We have not found published chain-wide catering cancellation policies, so ask directly. For prepaid restaurant deals, terms are clearer: OpenRice Book-a-Menu offers are generally non-refundable once confirmed, and some — such as one omakase offer — allow changes only at least 24 hours before the booking.
Get it in writing. Before you pay, ask for the cancellation deadline, change deadline and whether a deposit is refundable — by email or message, not just by phone.
Weather and typhoons
Typhoon signals and rainstorm warnings can stop deliveries and close restaurants. Ask what happens to your order if a Signal No. 8 or Black Rainstorm warning is raised — rescheduling, refund or credit.
Questions to ask: minimum notice · delivery window · cancellation and change deadlines · deposit terms · typhoon policy · headcount changes · whether chopsticks, soy and ice packs are included.
Don't order sushi too early in the day. A platter delivered in the morning for an evening party will not be at its best. Ask for delivery as close to serving time as possible.
