Kura Sushi Hong Kong: What to Know Before You Go

The most important thing to know: Kura Sushi, the Japanese conveyor-belt chain, has no branches in Hong Kong. Some guides say otherwise, but the company's own Hong Kong subsidiary was a holding company for mainland China, never opened a shop here, and was dissolved in March 2026.

The facts. Kura Sushi (くら寿司) in Hong Kong: no branches. Kura Sushi Hong Kong Limited: set up in 2023 as a holding company for mainland China, dissolved in March 2026. Mainland China: Kura has exited. Similar experience here: Sushiro, Genki Sushi, Sushi Express.

What happened

Kura Sushi Asia set up Kura Sushi Hong Kong Limited in March 2023 to hold its investment in Kura Sushi Shanghai. The Shanghai food business was wound up in December 2025, and the Hong Kong company was dissolved in March 2026, marking Kura's full exit from the China market. According to the company history, the Hong Kong entity did not open any stores in Hong Kong.

Why the confusion

Some Chinese-language websites list "藏壽司" among Hong Kong belt chains, with prices and branch counts. Those descriptions don't match Kura Sushi and appear to mix it up with other chains. Treat them with caution.

KURA in Causeway Bay is different

KURA (藏) at 1/F, 482 Jaffe Road, Causeway Bay, is an unrelated Japanese restaurant with lunch sets and omakase. Time Out has marked it closed, while its OpenRice listing still shows hours. Check directly before you go.

Where to get the Kura-style experience

Kura is famous for its Bikkura Pon capsule-toy game — collect five plates and get a chance to win. In Hong Kong, the closest things are Genki Sushi's themed campaigns, such as its 2026 Tamagotchi "Capsule Toy Fair" with collectibles, and Sushiro's tablet ordering and opening-day giveaways. See Genki Sushi menu and Sushiro guide.

Visiting Japan or Taiwan? That's where to try Kura Sushi — it operates widely in both.

Also gone: Don Don Donki's belt-sushi brand SEN SEN (鮮選壽司) has withdrawn from Hong Kong, with its last shop at Ocean Pride, Tsuen Wan, announcing its closure. Donki's supermarket sushi counters remain.

Check before you travel across town. Chain line-ups in Hong Kong change often. Confirm branches on the chain's official site or OpenRice.
