Sushi Coupons, Member and Loyalty Programmes in Hong Kong
Loyalty schemes save more on Hong Kong sushi than one-off coupons do, because the discounts are repeatable. The clearest examples are hotel membership rates around 25% off, hotel eShop discounts up to 40%, and chain member pricing that quietly changes what a set costs.
One-off vouchers still have a place, but they are worth less than they look once you read the conditions.
1. Hotel membership and eShop pricing
- Mira Plus: members have been quoted 25% off buffets at Yamm, The Mira, where the premium Sunday seafood brunch lists at HKD 628 per adult.
- Hotel eShops: Sheraton Tung Chung's Cafe Lantau semi-buffet has carried a 40% eShop discount, taking an HKD 768-plus-service adult ticket to roughly HKD 537.60 net.
- Buy-one-get-one flash sales: a Sheraton Hong Kong promotion brought its Japanese seafood dinner buffet to about HKD 384 per person plus service.
These are the largest repeatable discounts in the market, and they apply to exactly the venues with unlimited sashimi counters. See hotel Japanese buffets.
2. Chain member and app pricing
Belt chains run their own member pricing, app coupons and stamp schemes, and branch-level discounting is common. A 12-piece small roll set has been listed around HKD 62 at one Genki branch and about HKD 44.60 at another, which is a larger gap than most coupons deliver.
The practical habit is to check your own branch in the chain app or on a delivery platform before ordering, rather than assuming a single chain-wide price. See Genki Sushi menu and prices.
3. Restaurant cash vouchers
OpenRice has listed Japanese and Korean restaurant cash vouchers, including HKD 500 of credit for HKD 400 and HKD 100 for HKD 85 at tori izakaya in Causeway Bay, and district-wide HKD 100 vouchers for HKD 88 redeemable at designated restaurants with OR Pay and Rice dollars.
The economics are simple: a HKD 500-for-HKD-400 voucher is a 20% discount only if you would have spent HKD 500 anyway. If it pushes you to order more, the saving evaporates.
4. Airline and points programmes
Cathay's dining programme lets you link your membership to an OpenRice account and earn 15 Asia Miles for each reservation made in Hong Kong, Macao, Japan or Taiwan. The mileage value is small, but it costs nothing on a booking you were making anyway.
5. How to evaluate any offer
- Work out the all-in price including the 10% service charge.
- Check whether the service charge applies to the original or discounted price.
- Check blackout dates, which usually include public holidays and their eves.
- Check the seating-time condition; many discounts are tied to fixed sittings.
- Check the expiry date and whether the voucher is refundable.
- Check whether stacking with other offers is allowed; it usually is not.
- Compare against simply booking weekday lunch, which often beats the coupon.
6. What loyalty schemes will not fix
Discounts cluster at the volume end of the market: chains, buffets and hotel restaurants. Small omakase counters rarely discount, because eight to twelve seats sell out without help. At that level the savings come from choosing lunch over dinner rather than from a membership card; see lunch versus dinner omakase prices.
7. Frequently asked questions
Which programme saves the most?
Hotel eShop and membership rates, at 25% to 40% off buffets, well ahead of typical voucher margins of 12% to 20%.
Are cash vouchers worth buying?
Only for restaurants you already visit at a spend level you already reach. Otherwise they encourage overspending.
Do omakase counters have loyalty schemes?
Rarely formal ones, though regulars gain access at hard-to-book counters. See how to book a sushi restaurant in Hong Kong.
Where else should I look?
