Family Friendly Sushi Restaurants with Kids Menus and Buffet Pricing

Sushi with children is easier than it sounds. Around half of a typical sushi menu is cooked or vegetarian, many chains are built for families, and hotel buffets usually offer discounted child prices. This guide shows where to go and what children should order.

Family picks. Easiest: Genki Sushi — 40+ outlets, bilingual tablet, lots of cooked plates from about HKD 12. Skip the queue: Sushiro's booking app. Sit-down with kids' menu: Honjo and Aqua. High chairs: Hashibami and Honjo. Buffet child prices: from about HKD 168 at chains to HKD 578 at hotels.

Why raw fish is not for young children

Hong Kong's Centre for Food Safety lists young children among the groups who should avoid raw and undercooked seafood, and advises avoiding large predatory fish because of mercury. So the cooked side of the menu is the right choice for kids, not a compromise.

What children can order

Tamago (sweet omelette), inari (sweet tofu pouch), cucumber rolls, cooked prawn, unagi (grilled eel), tempura rolls, karaage and chawanmushi (steamed egg custard, about HKD 18 at Genki). Skip wasabi and go easy on soy sauce. See kid friendly sushi without raw fish.

Chains

Genki Sushi is the easiest family choice: 40+ branches in station malls, a bilingual tablet, express-lane delivery to the table and the widest cooked range. Sushiro has around 25 stores and an official app to book a time slot, which saves a long wait with children. sen-ryo offers a kids' bento, and Itacho Sushi's Set E is built on egg, inari and shrimp sushi. Sit-down restaurants

Honjo in Sheung Wan lists a kids' menu, high chairs and a changing table, rated 4.7 from more than 1,200 reviews. Aqua in Tsim Sha Tsui lists a kids' menu and is marked good for kids. Hashibami in Hung Hom lists high chairs, and Imasa at The Peninsula is listed as good for children. Teppanyaki rooms such as Hana Sakazuki and Sakurada are fully cooked and fun to watch.

Buffet child pricing

Child prices at a glance. Yamm, The Mira Sunday seafood brunch: HKD 328 per child (ages 3–11) against HKD 628 per adult. cafe TOO, Island Shangri-La: about HKD 318 at lunch and HKD 578 at dinner per child. The Market, Hotel ICON: dinner from HKD 578 per child. Chain all-you-can-eat: children aged 9–12 about HKD 168. Add 10% service.

Check the age bands, as they differ by venue, and remember that lunch is much cheaper than dinner. See the best sushi buffet, hotel Japanese buffets and buffet lunch versus dinner prices.

Beat the crowds: go at 11:30am or 5:30pm, order cooked plates first so food arrives fast, and ask for a high chair when you book.

Omakase with children?

Usually not. An eight-seat counter with a fixed two-hour sequence is hard for young children and for other guests. If you want to try, ask first, book lunch, and choose a counter that lists high chairs. See omakase dress code and seating rules.

Allergies matter. Shellfish is a common allergen, and belt restaurants share plates and surfaces. Tell staff first and choose clearly labelled items. See shellfish allergy at sushi restaurants.
