Plan the sushi trip properly.
Sushi Travel Guide for Japan Trips
A sushi-focused trip to Japan can include market breakfasts, neighbourhood counters, conveyor-belt chains and regional seafood. Good planning matters because popular restaurants may have limited seats, Japanese-only booking systems or strict cancellation terms.
Tokyo
Tokyo offers every level of sushi, from market restaurants and standing bars to renowned Edomae counters. Research booking methods before travelling and do not assume every restaurant accepts overseas reservations.
Osaka and Kansai
Kansai has its own traditions, including pressed sushi and mackerel-based preparations. Osaka is also strong for casual food, making it easy to combine sushi with other regional dishes.
Hokkaido
Hokkaido is known for cold-water seafood such as uni, crab, scallop and salmon roe. Seasonal availability can affect both quality and price.
Booking and etiquette
Arrive on time, follow photography rules and tell the restaurant about allergies in advance. Carry a payment alternative because smaller restaurants may not support every foreign card or mobile wallet.
Returning to Hong Kong
Check current customs and food-import rules before bringing seafood or other perishable food home. Regulations can change and should be verified before departure.
