Sushi Delivery Minimum Order and Delivery Fees in Hong Kong

The price on a sushi menu is rarely what you pay for delivery. Platform fees, restaurant minimums, small-order charges and weather surcharges all sit on top. Knowing how they work is the easiest way to cut the cost of a delivered meal without eating worse.

Fees at a glance. Hong Kong's two main apps are foodpanda and Keeta; Deliveroo left on 7 April 2025. Keeta has waived delivery fees on standard orders from HKD 100. foodpanda offers the PandaPro subscription. Restaurants set their own minimum orders, and small-order and weather charges can apply. Always check the final total at checkout.

The four costs on a delivery order

1. The food. Menu prices on the apps can differ from in-store prices, and from one app to the other. 2. The delivery fee. Set by the platform, usually based on distance, demand and time of day. 3. The minimum order. Set by the restaurant; below it, you either cannot order or pay a small-order fee. 4. Surcharges. Busy periods and bad weather can add extra charges.

Keeta

Keeta, run by Meituan, entered Hong Kong in May 2023 and now leads the market with around 53% share by industry estimates. It has waived delivery fees on standard human-delivered orders from HKD 100, which makes it very competitive for a single sushi order. It has also run a drone delivery service in selected areas at HKD 30 per order. Promotions change often.

foodpanda

foodpanda took over key local assets when Deliveroo exited in April 2025 and holds most of the rest of the market. Its main saving tool is PandaPro, a subscription that reduces or removes delivery fees and suits people who order several times a month. It also has strong supermarket and deli listings, often with itemised piece counts.

Deliveroo is no longer an option. It ceased operations in Hong Kong on 7 April 2025 after selling key local assets to foodpanda. Ignore any fee comparisons that still include it.

Restaurant minimum orders

Each restaurant sets its own minimum, and it can vary by branch and distance. Chains with low-priced items often have lower minimums; premium restaurants and catering orders have higher ones. Large platters are a separate case: sen-ryo, for example, requires its platter range to be ordered at least seven days ahead. See sushi catering lead time and cancellation.

How to cut delivery costs

Cross the free-delivery line with food you want — a 16-piece Sushiro box at HKD 128 already clears Keeta's HKD 100 threshold. Order from nearby, since distance drives fees. Avoid peak times, 12:30pm to 2pm and 7pm to 8pm. Compare both apps for the same dish. Subscribe only if you order often. Collect when you can, which removes fees entirely; see sushi takeaway near MTR stations.

Do not chase free delivery from far away. Padding an order from a restaurant across town saves a fee but costs you freshness, because raw fish spends longer in an insulated — not refrigerated — bag.

Weather and delivery

Severe weather stops delivery entirely. When the Black Rainstorm Warning was raised on 18 June 2026, both Keeta and foodpanda suspended delivery at once, while takeaway collection stayed open. Typhoon signals work the same way. For planned orders between May and November, keep a collection fallback.

Changes that may affect fees

In April 2026, the Competition Commission opened a consultation on Keeta's proposed commitments to relax exclusive arrangements with restaurants. If adopted, more restaurants may list on both apps, which could increase competition on price.

Budget orders

Under HKD 150, the best orders are chain boxes, roll sets and supermarket bowls. See the cheapest sushi delivery under HKD 150 and sushi delivery in Hong Kong.

Keeping delivered sushi safe

Hong Kong's Centre for Food Safety classifies sushi and sashimi as high-risk foods and identifies 4°C to 60°C as the danger zone. Eat on arrival or refrigerate within thirty minutes. See how to store delivered sushi safely.
